Breast augmentation

Being ”flat-chested” or having small breasts can be a reason for wanting a breast augmentation. The breasts can be enlarged by inserting breast implants. The implants most commonly used today have a firm and flexible filling that feel natural to touch. When selecting the implant you want, your build and condition of your skin are important factors to take into consideration. The implant will be chosen in consultation with the surgeon.

You can make an appointment for a consultation with the plastic surgeon. This first consultation is free of charge.

The specialist will be able to tell you if such a procedure can be performed on you. And whether the result you want is achievable. During this consultation, the surgeon may show you pre-op and post-op photos.

Breast augmentation procedure

The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and takes approximately one hour. The most common method is to make a small incision in the fold under the breast, through which the implant is then inserted. Once the wound has been stitched up, a support bandage will be applied and if possible a bra.

Post procedure

You are allowed to go home the very same day. If you have been given a support bandage, this is to be worn for one week.

After the operation, you obviously have to be careful. For a period of six weeks, you are to refrain from doing any strenuous exercise, lifting heavy weights or performing any heavy work.

In the beginning, your breasts will feel quite hard. But this will go away after a couple of months. In most cases it will still be possible to breastfeed. In exceptional cases, the breasts will stay feeling hard. This means that a layer of connective tissue has formed around the implant. A minor procedure can be performed to correct this. A couple of months after the operation, the results will generally be plain to see.

You will go back to see the plastic surgeon a week after the procedure for a check-up and to have the bandage and stitches removed. You will be given a support bra if you were not given one immediately after the operation. Follow-up check-ups will be made in consultation with the specialist.
