Liposculpture

Fat (lipo) can build up in certain places around the body, such as your abdomen, legs, buttocks, hips, knees, arms, neck, chin, mons veneris, back, etc. Liposculpture is a technique to remove fat in specific areas by sucking out the fatty cells. It is not a method for losing weight. The skin has to be sufficiently elastic to fall back into shape after the procedure.

You can make an appointment for a consultation with the plastic surgeon. This first consultation is free of charge.

The specialist will be able to tell you if such a procedure can be performed on you. And whether the result you want is achievable. During this consultation, the surgeon may show you pre-op and post-op photos.

Liposculpture procedure

Depending on the scope of the procedure, it is carried out under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic. A minor procedure can be carried out under local anaesthetic, but a more extensive one is performed under general anaesthetic. The duration of the operation depends on the volume of fatty cells to be removed.

Small incisions are made in the skin in the areas to be treated and a special liquid is injected, after which the fatty cells are removed using small suction needles. The incisions are then closed up. You will be given a pressure bandage or support garment to wear.

Post procedure

If the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, you will be free to go home shortly afterwards. If the procedure was performed under general anaesthetic, you must stay at the clinic for longer, but may still go home the very same day. Special support garments must be worn for four to six weeks, day and night. If only a very small amount of fat is removed, it is not necessary to wear the support garment. After approximately six months, the results will generally be plain to see.

You will go back to see the plastic surgeon for a check-up a week after the procedure. Follow-up check-ups will be made in consultation with the specialist.
