Neck-facelift

As you get older, your skin loses its elasticity, gets thinner and eventually becomes wrinkled. Facelifts can make you look younger and brighter without changing the character of your face. A neck and facelift is often combined with an eyelid correction procedure.

You can make an appointment for a consultation with the plastic surgeon. This first consultation is free of charge.

The specialist will be able to tell you if such a procedure can be performed on you. And whether the result you want is achievable. During this consultation, the surgeon may show you pre-op and post-op photos.

Neck-facelift procedure

The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic. The incision begins in the hairline at the temples, continues downwards around the ear and then ends in the lower scalp behind the ear. Excess fatty and skin tissue is removed. The skin of the cheeks and neck is tightened. For optimal results, a layer of muscle tissue is also sometimes tightened. When pulling the skin taut, the aim is to achieve an effect that is as natural as possible, retaining suppleness. After stitching the wound together, the plastic surgeon then wraps a bandage around the head. This bandage is then removed the next day, before you go home. Your hair is then washed in the shower with a special shampoo, with the assistance of a nurse. After that, you will be given an elastic headband. This headband has to be worn for a week.

Post procedure

After the operation, you will stay overnight at the clinic. You will then be able to go home the next day. The headband is to be worn for one week. After the operation, you obviously have to be careful. For a period of six weeks, you are to refrain from doing any strenuous exercise, lifting heavy weights or performing any heavy work. Your face may be a bit swollen and bruised for a few weeks. This will gradually reduce. After approximately six months, the results will generally be plain to see.

You will go back to see the plastic surgeon a week after the procedure for a check-up and to have the bandage and stitches removed. Follow-up check-ups will be made in consultation with the specialist.
