Safe and permanent hair removal with a flash-lamp
Hair removal using the Ellipse system puts an end to other painful and inconvenient ways of removing hair. The Ellipse system uses safe, visible light emitted from a flash-lamp to remove unwanted hair from all over the body. It is important not to depilate or wax for four or more weeks prior to the procedure. However, the area requiring treatment is to be shaved before you are lasered. It is also recommended to limit sunbathing before and during the treatment sessions.
Treatment
For the treatment, a thin layer of gel is applied to the skin to optimise the transmission of light to the hairs and protect the skin from the heat of the lamp. Facial treatments take approximately twenty minutes, while treatment for the back or both legs will last approximately an hour. The intensity of the light is adjusted to the individual skin and hair type. The treatment is most effective with darker hair and fair skin. The Boerhaave medical centre is one of the few clinics around with special equipment for darker skin types. Even the darkest of skin types can be treated with excellent results.
It should be noted that four to seven treatments are needed for optimum results.
After hair removal
If you have sensitive skin, you may benefit from using a soothing, cooling,
perfume-free cream after the treatment.
It is recommended to limit sun exposure after the treatments and to use
sun screen (minimum SPF 20) for a few weeks following treatment.
Generally speaking, you will need four to seven sessions, with a period
of six to eight weeks between each session. The treatment cannot be done
all in one go, as hair follicles go through resting and growing phases.
Only follicles in the growth phase contain hair which can be destroyed
in the Ellipse treatment. It is therefore necessary to repeat the treatment
at intervals until all hair follicles have been through the growth phase.
