Scar correction
Ugly scars can often be improved by the plastic surgeon. However it is impossible for them to completely disappear. Scars can only be corrected once they have completely healed. This may well take half a year.
You can make an appointment for a consultation with the plastic surgeon. This first consultation is free of charge.
The specialist will be able to tell you if such a procedure can be performed on you. And whether the result you want is achievable. During this consultation, the surgeon may show you pre-op and post-op photos.
Scar correction procedure
General anaesthetic is sometimes needed for larger scars. Local anaesthetic is usually fine for small scars. The scar tissue is removed and once the wound has been stitched, it is covered in sticking plaster.
Post procedure
If the procedure was performed under local anaesthetic, you may go home the very same day. If the procedure was performed under general anaesthetic, you will have to stay in the clinic for longer, but may still go home the same day. After the operation, you obviously have to be careful. It is important to avoid too much pressure on the wound. After approximately six months, the results will generally be plain to see.
You will go back to see the plastic surgeon a week after the procedure for a check-up and to have the sticking plaster and stitches removed. Follow-up check-ups will be made in consultation with the specialist.
