We treat people with the most diverse complaints in our neurology department – from headaches and sleeplessness to back pain and dizziness. Although the causes of neurological conditions are often complex and sometimes difficult to determine, many conditions can be effectively treated.
If you feel you are not benefiting from your current treatment or you are looking for a way of reducing your complaints, simply make an appointment to see one of our neurologists. You will not have to wait long for an appointment with the neurologist.
What is a neurologist?
A neurologist is a medical doctor with specialised training in diagnosing and treating disorders of the brain, spinal cord, nervous system and muscles. They examine complaints such as headaches, dizziness, double vision, radiating back pain, symptoms of paralysis and sleeping problems.
What does the neurologist do?
First and foremost, the neurologist listens carefully to your symptoms. Based on this information, they will make a provisional diagnosis. The neurologist can test most functions of the brain and nervous system using simple instruments. They also have a range of options at their disposal for carrying out further tests, such as EMG, EEG, CT scan and MRI scan. Depending on the findings of these tests, the neurologist will propose a treatment plan. In many cases, this can all be done within a short space of time.
Treatment by the neurologist
With many neurological conditions, an important part of the treatment is to ensure proper information and support. To this end, the neurologist works in conjunction with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists and speech therapists. It is also easy for the neurologist at Boerhaave Medical Centre to consult an internist.
The neurologists at the Boerhaave Medical Centre specialise in general neurology and people with headaches and sleeping problems. For more information on our areas of specialisation, please click on the following links:
